Tourist Attractions.
Just a short drive away is a beautiful Criccieth Castle, sitting so high and majestic on a rocky promontory which juts dramatically out into Tremadog Bay. Yet, the site has also stirred up controversy over the years. A combination of Welsh and English remains, there has been much speculation as to which areas of the castle belong to which building periods. Was the inner or outer bailey the original stronghold.
And beyond Criccieth visit Portmeirion a popular and fascinating tourist village. It was designed and built by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis between 1925 and 1975 in the style of an Italian village and served as the location for numerous films and television shows, most famously serving as The Village in the 1960s television show The Prisoner.
On a wet day take a stunning train ride on The FFesiniog Railway which takes you on a 13½-mile journey from the. harbour in Porthmadog to the slate-quarrying town of Blaenau Ffestiniog. Our historic trains climb over 700 feet from sea level into the mountains through tranquil pastures and magnificent forests, past lakes and waterfalls, round horseshoe bends clinging to the side of the mountain or even tunnelling through it.
