Its an area of outstanding natural beauty and has a wealth of wildlife, with a rich and varied bird population. Seals, otters and porpoise are frequently spotted in the waters of the loch. This part of Scotland is an ideal place for keen walkers and you will be spoilt for choice of fabulous walks available from the front door. Climb to the top of the Melfort Hills and sit and admire the breathtaking views over the Sound of Jura, Firth of Lorn and surrounding islands.
Quayside is a ground floor lochside holiday home offering accommodation all on one level. It has an open plan living area, with kitchen and patio doors out onto a secure terraced area which has stunning views over the loch. There are two ensuite bedrooms and the property benefits from underfloor heating.
You enter the Quayside into a hall area with hooks to hang coats and an ideal place to leave muddy boots after a long walk. The living area has modern leather two seater sofas and two single leather chairs. There is a digital TV, Free Wi Fi, and CD player and patio doors which open out onto a secure terraced area with tables and chairs. The kitchen area has a cooker, electric hob and oven, dishwasher, microwave, washer/dryer and fridge/freezer and there is a dining table which seats 4 and looks out of the side window and across the lock.
There is a large master bedroom with king sized bed and digital TV. This bedroom has an ensuite luxury bathroom with Jacuzzi, separate shower, sauna, basin and WC. The twin room also has a ensuite with Bath, shower, basin and WC.
Ideal for couples and young families, Quayside offers a totally relaxing place to stay and you can choose to either chill out by taking in the spectacular views, a long soak in the spa bath, drink a glass of wine on the terrace, soak up the sun and read a book or fall asleep.
For those wishing more activity there is plenty to do, including golf, horse riding, boat trips, and the area is also ideal for water sports lovers and there are plenty of bays around the coast which are ideal for kayaking. There is also sailing on the Loch and you can bring a small boat and launch it from the slipway which is close to Quayside and benefit from the use of the harbour.
Visit the beautiful Arduaine Gardens, just 4 miles away, where the warmth of the Gulf Stream nurtures the rare and exotic plants and shrubs. You can take dogs (on a lead with a responsible owner) into the gardens. Enjoy a coffee or bar lunch at The ChartroomII before or after your visit.
Craobh Haven, about 6 miles away, has a lively marina where you can board the Farsain for a 3 hour wildlife cruise through the Gulf of Corryvreckan. Afterwards enjoy a snack at The Lord of the Isles.

For a day out you could try a trip to the fairly flat island of Lismore, hire some bikes and cycle to the island heritage centre. Lismore Bike Hire will deliver anywhere on the Island
Kerrera, the island situated in Oban Bay, is less than 5 mins by ferry from the ferry slip just 2 miles south of Oban on the Gallanach Road. There’s a great circular walk taking in Gylen castle, a Parrot Sanctuary, and the Kerrera Tea Garden and some fantastic views over towards Mull.
Scottish Seal Sanctuary - Explore natural marine habitats and enjoy the antics of seals and otters. 10 miles north of Oban. Inverawe Country Park - So much to offer! Fishing, Walking, Play area, Tearoom & smokery exhibition. 16 miles inland from Oban. Kilmartin House Museum - Award winning archeological museum, walks, gift shop and cafe. 12 miles south of Melfort. Argyll Adventure , near Inveraray - great fun activities for all the family, rain or shine! Inveraray- there’s loads to do on a day out to Inveraray!

Kilmelford has an enviable reputation for wild brown trout fishing on the many hill lochs around the area. The sea fishing in the area is also excellent, offering a wide variety of species. For more information on fishing in the area have a look at Fishing-Argyll.
There are many lovely walks in the hills surrounding the cottages - a booklet recommending our favourites is available from reception where you may purchase Ordnance Survey maps and guide books. The Argyll Forestry Commission offers specially marked hiking trails and cycle routes and provide detailed leaflets.
Pubs and Restaurants
Shower of Herring Restaurant at Melfort Village Established in 1987, the Shower of Herring restaurant has become a very well respected restaurant in the Oban Argyll area of Scotland with customers travelling from all parts of Scotland to sample the exquisite menu.
Kilmelford, the local village 1½ miles away, has a well-stocked local store and Post Office. Groceries can be ordered in advance and delivered to your cottage prior to arrival. The shop also houses the Quaich cafe, which offers tasty snacks and home baking daily plus a selection of interesting crafts.
The local hotel and public house, the Cuilfail Hotel, is an old coaching inn and retains that traditional feel. Snacks and meals are served in the public bar.
