Earby House is a lovely Cotswolds large holiday home, located in the pretty village of Oddington. There are many enchanting villages in The Cotswolds which can only be described as typical quintessence of English rural life and Oddington is no exception, as it still holds the charm of a typical 11th century Cotswolds Village.
A traditional English village was usually made up of a small settlement that had a parish church, a school and a shop or two with one usually including a post office. There would have been at least two pubs serving locals and usually a manor house that was set in it’s own grounds and usually referred to as ‘the great house’.
Oddington still offers the charm of a traditional village with its historical Church of St. Nicholas which date back to the 12th century, two pubs, The Fox and The Horse and Groom and a Manor House which originally dates back to the 12th Century. During the 13th century the Manor House was one of the archbishop of York residences and King Henry III often stopped there when traveling between Woodstock and Evesham.
Earby House is one of Blue Lagoon three holiday properties, located at the top of Church Lane, it was one of the last surviving shops in Oddington and up to 2004 was the local post office. Sad that the local shops have disappeared but the conversation of the old post office has created spacious luxury accommodation for families or an ideal romantic getaway for couples and is also a perfect hideaway for Honeymooners.
The shop has been transformed into a large lounge/dining room and the present owner built a feature Cotswolds stone fireplace with wood burner. Its the perfect place to unwind after a long day exploring the Cotswolds in front of the fire enjoying a glass of wine. At the far end of the spacious lounge and where the counter once stood is a magnificent dining table which seats eight and offers an elegant dining.
There is a large modern fitted kitchen with 4 ring hob and extractor fan, Oven, Microwave, Dishwasher, Fridge and Freezer. Off the kitchen is a utility room with a Washer and separate clothes Dryer. Steps from the Kitchen lead to a small walled patio area with table and chairs for 6 and offers an excellent area for alfresco dining.
Stairs from the kitchen leads down to the cellar which offers a quirky inside ‘garden themed’ retreat for the children which has seating for 5, TV and traditional board games to play on those wet days’
On the first floor there are 4 spacious bedrooms. The master bedroom has a king size four poster bed and en-suite with shower and toilet. This stunning bedroom offers a romantic hideaway with its four poster bed, crisp white bed linen and exotic purple soft furnishings and a TV /DVD. There is three further bedrooms, one offers a king size bed with white bed linen and complimented with pastel green soft furnishing and cream painted pine furniture. The third bedroom offers two single beds with white bed linen, pine bedroom furniture and splashes of poppy red soft furnishings.
The fourth bedroom has a single bed (+ pull out bed) and pine bedroom furniture and soft furnishings in soft subtle beige tones. The roomy 1st floor accommodation, offers an airy family bathroom, with a large bath, toilet, sink and separate shower. Testimonials
"This cottage was 5 star on all counts from the decorative touches of the cottage to the cleanliness to the thoughtful welcome basket of all the essentials of bread, cheese, milk and wine. The kitchen is fully equipped. We cooked and fed the family of grandparents and young children and all ages in between and found all utensils necessary. Lovely areas set out for all ages. Well situated to visit many sites by car but also wonderful walks starting just outside of cottage. Would return in a heart beat. Would also highly recommend to friends."
