NEARBY TOWNS AND VILLAGES
Moontide is locatated in Appledore, a small fishing village and located in North Devon, where the Taw and Torridge rivers meet before they flow into the Atlantic at Bideford Bay.
Bideford is only 3.5 miles away – an attractive town on the west bank of the River Torridge, where the river begins to widen to form the estuary. The old road has a lovely old bridge crossing the Torridge linking the town of Bideford to its neighbouring village East the Water. Plenty of shops and pubs and an array of music nights.
Westward Ho! Is 3 miles away and its golden sands stretch for nearly two miles, gently sloping toward the sea, the beach is perfect for all sorts of family fun. It's also popular with surfers, kite surfers and wind surfers.
Instow the other side of the Estuary is 5 miles away by car. Backed by rolling hills, fields and woods and a beautiful beach, known as Instow Sands which is partially dog-friendly. Instow has many pubs, hotels and restaurants and a passenger ferry service which operates between Instow and Appledore from Easter to end of October ..
Barnstaple is 11 miles away and largest town in North Devon.This ancient town was granted its charter in 930 AD by King Aethelstan - the grandson of Alfred the Great. Now a thriving market town with a traditional Pannier Market. Today Barnstaple has a partly pedestrianised centre and features many fine buildings and attractive narrow streets and alleys.
GREAT DAYS OUT
Tapeley Park Gardens is only a 10 minute drive from Moontide and Italian landscaped terraces, one of the UK's oldest permaculture garden and some of the finest North Devon coastal views from the Monument.
The Tarka Trail Join it at Instow and just park up at one of the lay-bys along the road into Instow to join the trail and discover unspoiled countryside, dramatic sea cliffs and the longest, continuous cycle path in the UK are waiting to be discovered.
Bideford Railway Heritage Centre is a 10 minute drive away and houses the Bideford station site and Instow signal box on the old railway line from Barnstaple to Bideford in north Devon.
Hartland Abbey & Gardens is a 30 minute drive away and is probably the most historically important ancestral home in North Devon containing much of national interest, including architecture and decoration
Clovelly is about a 40 minute drive away Clinging to a 400 foot cliff, it has no vehicular traffic, just donkeys and sledges. Its steep, cobbled street tumbles its way down to the ancient fishing harbour and C14th quay.
Built in 1823 and extended in 1860 its austere facade hides a warm, cosy family home. Explore the Carriage Museum at Arlington Court, which houses one of the most significant collections of carriages in the country.

The nearest supermarket is Morrisons, 3 miles away in Bideford and Asda, Mosrrisons and Tesco, East of the Water, where you can order your grocery shopping and get it delivered to the cottage for when you arrive.
Under 10 minutes walk away you will find Delis at Johns who are passionate about food, and shows in their lovingly collected range of local produce, with artisan cheeses and gins, an extensive charcuterie section, lovely rustic breads and so much more.
SPORTING ACTIVITIES
Bideford Bicycle Hire where you can hire a bicycle to explore the 34 mile traffic free Tarka Trail cycle route. Our bike depot is situated in the middle of the cycle trail offering you the choice of cycling south towards Torrington and Meeth or North to Barnstaple then onto Braunton.
Saunton Sands Golf Club offers a challenging 18-hole par 70 course of just over 5,800 yards (yellow tees) with spectacular views across the Derwent Valley and unrivalled practice facilities, including a 10 bay covered and floodlit driving range.
North Devon Surf School is the highest rated surf school in the UK, check out their all-purpose built surf centre only 50 metres from the beach. This place is awesome and can get almost anyone up on a board regardless of age and ability.
At Surf SUP Academy where they taylor their lessons to suit all abilities, from complete beginners, to intermediates, to advanced surfers wishing to brush up on their techniques.
